  • Beat the margarine and sugar in a large bowl until creamy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  • Slowly add the flour into the margarine mixture until it forms a rough dough.
  • Add in a generous squirt of the green gel food coloring and mix until the coloring is even.
  • Shape the dough into a ball and chill in the fridge for an hour. (You can keep it the fridge overnight and even freeze the dough to be used later)
  • Preheat your oven to 170 °C (338f) and line a baking tray with baking paper.
  • Place some plain flour in a dish. Dip the cookie cutter in the flour so all the grooves and sides are covered. Shake off the excess.
  • On a lightly floured surface roll the dough flat and cut with a lightly floured cookie cutter. Press down so the dough will get indented properly. If it doesn’t look right simply roll into a ball and try it over again.
  • Transfer the cookies onto the tray.
  • Keep cutting the cookies out until the tray is filled up. There is no baking powder in the recipe so the cookies will not rise much.
  • Bake the cookies for around 8 to 11 minutes depending on the thickness. They should be just starting to brown around the edges.
  • Carefully transfer to a wire rack to cool down.
  • Tip some cocoa powder into a small dish and grab a cookie.
  • Gently dip the clean brush into the powder and brush into the groves on the cookie.
  • Keep doing this process until all the grooves have been covered. You can use the brush to darken areas as needed as well as clear away any excess powder.
  • Congratulations you have made delicious zombie heart cookies.
  • Serve, devour and enjoy.
