Bloody ‘Sponge’ Cake (Lactose Free!)

Welcome back to another delicious lactose free recipe. This weeks recipe is for delicious sponge cake that looks like a realistic sponge.

  • Preheat your oven to 160c and line the two small brownie tins with baking paper.
  • Cream together the margarine, sugar and vanilla extract.
  • Add in the eggs one at a time. Mix well.
  • Sift in the flour, salt, baking powder. Mix until it just comes together.
  • Separate one third of the mixture and place in a separate bowl.
  • Color the batter that is 2/3 of the mix yellow. Pour into one of the square brownie tins and smooth down.
  • Color the 1/3 that was separated green. Spoon into the other tin and smooth down.
  • Bake the yellow cake for 15 to 20 minutes until cooked.
  • Bake the green cake for 10 to 13 minutes until cooked.
  • Take the cakes out and leave them to cool down.
  • Spread honey over the top of the yellow cake.
  • Place the green cake on top.
  • Use a serrated knife to scratch the top of the green cake so it creates that scrubber texture.
  • Trim off the edges and cut into small rectangles.
  • To make fake blood simply combine honey, red gel food coloring in a small bowl. Add water until it reaches your desired thickness.
  • To make the foam simply whip up the egg white and sugar until it forms small soap like bubbles. Think soft peak stage.
  • Congratulations you have made realistic sponge cakes. Serve with a spatter of fake blood and a good spoonful of the egg white bubbles.
  • Serve, devour and enjoy.
